This film was really engrossing to watch and  at its heart is a love story. I loved the way the writers kept it real and messy with the two central characters living through their own individual hurdles while influencing each other with significant impact. There’s an age gap but emotionally their maturity is quite opposite. The themes of jealousy and control are quite raw here and they both learn a lot from each other. The message of this story said to me just because you have an undeniable connection with someone it doesn’t mean you’re meant to stick with it necessarily. Also, the love still continues…

This is my number 2 film in the top 4! A film like Moonlight only comes along once every 5 years or so. A story so heartfelt and real that you can’t look away. You even lean forward (I’m thinking of one particular scene in part 1) to feel closer to the scene. I like to call this kind of film Contemporary Realism. Rewatched this one. It’s aged well and is such a brilliantly written screenplay with dynamic characters that are mostly unlikeable with a vulnerability about them too. All stellar performances except Abbie Cornish was totally miscast! s and Sam both deserved their Oscars. Great ending too!
