“I’m the real one!”

2025
a solid central metaphor bogged down by a boring and yet also confused plot and magic (?) system. a confused boredom the film feels insecure about since it tells you what’s actually going on in the opening frame (also in the title, which i am not a fan of), kind of ruining the potential for any intrigue in the plot. the filmmaking and performances are so visceral that i was still pretty engaged throughout. the young actors all give exceptional performances and sally freaking hawkins puts on a MASTERCLASS that will stay with me.
