- The practical effects are quite successful, even featuring some surprisingly gory moments: a decapitation, close-ups of corpses… Some sequences are shockingly graphic for such a mainstream film.

- An incredible festival of special effects, both ingenious and impressive — whether it’s the reanimated cat, Dr. Hill’s talking head brilliantly staged, or the wild undead rampage at the end, you’d hardly seen anything like it back then (at least not until Braindead), and it’s all aged remarkably well, even 40 years later.

- A fantastic blend of horror, sci-fi, and comedy. The humor is well-balanced, packed with references (all the character names: Craven, Cronenberg, Raimi, Carpenter-Hooper, Landis :D) without being overdone, while still managing to stay serious and even touching at times. In that sense, it really reminded me of The Return of the Living Dead.
