All in all, much better than I was expecting having heard that this movie was a disaster. Some of the tech made my eyes roll, but it was much better more often than I thought it would.
Story wise, I was a bit lost even as I recognized all the flashbacks and most of the context having seen all of these movies in theaters and only vaguely recalling everything.
There have been many movies that look to a near future where technology is the villain but this really seems to be much more grounded in reality and almost seems plausible.
Honestly, I only went to see this to take advantage of the expansion of amc a-list to 4 movies per week and I had decided to take full advantage of the 3 movies I was allowed this past weekend now that I’ve ed a-list thanks to the opening of a new amc theater a short walk from where I live.
That said, this isn’t a great movie, but it does have some redeeming parts. I have so many questions about…
Outside of a few action sequences that were a lot of fun, this movie is very problematic. It was really hard for me to turn my brain off enough to not think about how silly the conflict was in this movie and how nearly any other course of action would have lead to a better outcome for everyone
Went in completely blind, only knowing the setting. This was one of my favorite movie going experiences and is the reason I try to avoid all spoilers. Knowing that plot elements and themes are revealed. Fantastic performances all around and even though the first act seemed long and slow, it was worth it to get to know characters before the story really starts.
