All in all, much better than I was expecting having heard that this movie was a disaster. Some of the tech made my eyes roll, but it was much better more often than I thought it would.

Story wise, I was a bit lost even as I recognized all the flashbacks and most of the context having seen all of these movies in theaters and only vaguely recalling everything.

There have been many movies that look to a near future where technology is the villain but this really seems to be much more grounded in reality and almost seems plausible.

Honestly, I only went to see this to take advantage of the expansion of amc a-list to 4 movies per week and I had decided to take full advantage of the 3 movies I was allowed this past weekend now that I’ve ed a-list thanks to the opening of a new amc theater a short walk from where I live.

That said, this isn’t a great movie, but it does have some redeeming parts. I have so many questions about how these people function and I was waiting for a lot more explanation but it never really comes. There’s one or two touching moments but that’s really overshadowed by the nonsensical action scenes, especially since the movie goes out of its way to ground itself in reality about the effects of being shot, but it seems random as to just how much damage each person can take. It became laughable to see people completely no sell grievous injuries while others succumb to relatively minor ones.

It wasn’t bad to see it for free, but I regret that I spent money at the concession stand.

A very solid and competent spy thriller… it kept me on my toes and while it’s very clever, I wish it all didn’t resolve quite so cleanly. Rami Malek continues to perform very well in tech oriented roles and I’ll always seek out anything he’s in.

A decent thriller/action movie that is borderline offensive to the neurodivergent community, with outright laughable technological abilities.

This movie tries to have the heart that Rain Man did and it came close in the first installment, but they probably should have just let it at that.

Went in completely blind, only knowing the setting. This was one of my favorite movie going experiences and is the reason I try to avoid all spoilers. Knowing that plot elements and themes are revealed. Fantastic performances all around and even though the first act seemed long and slow, it was worth it to get to know characters before the story really starts.

I’m still puzzling over how some of the shots in this film were achieved… this movie is proof that anything Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan has a hand in makes my must see list. Seeing this film in Chicago and hearing the remarks that were made seemed extra special. I also really feel bad for the folks that left the theater right when the credits started to roll and missed the excellent mid-credits scene.

Finally, I loved what this movie had to say about religion and spirituality and how there are many valid ways to experience a power beyond ourselves. Also, they commentary on the value of risking your soul to dance with the devil and expose yourself to evil in pursuit of your art is fascinating and will stay with me for quite some time!

I had a little bit of fun with the movie, even after several parts really strained credulity, but once everything was revealed it really fell apart. I didn’t guess right, but in hindsight there were enough clues to make this a fun mystery, despite how ridiculous it all got.

I was sold on this movie because it was set in Chicago. Other than a couple lines and the Prudential Building near their table, nothing about this movie. The restaurant is a set, and the exterior shots are clearly not Chicago and appears to be Dublin to me. So that was a bit of a bummer for me.

First rewatch since seeing this in theaters, and it was more fun than I . Soundtrack, driving, with some great plot moments too! I somehow forgot most of the funny parts too!

All I hoped for and a bit more.

Zendaya is a force of nature, and watching her evolve both within this movie and over the last several years is a rare treat and something to cherish.

This movie lives in the grey areas and ambiguities in human relationships and our ability to understand other’s motives and intentions. I am one of those that enjoys movies that allows the viewer to interpret the meaning and am looking forward to the debate over what would come next in the days and years that follow, but I fear there’s far too many unknowns for most viewers.

The soundtrack is all I’d expect from Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor. Every time the beats kicked in, they pulled me into the scene and punctuated the action perfectly. I am left scratching my head with the choice for some of the score choices, but I’d need another viewing to make the connections between the scenes that are diametrically opposed score-wise.

A fun twist on the classic A Christmas Carol… and I can watch Will Farrell in pretty much anything. Paired with Ryan Reynolds and repeatedly breaking into song with fun musical numbers is certainly a good time. I’m not sure how much more I could ask for from this movie, but I was hoping for more.

Outside of a few action sequences that were a lot of fun, this movie is very problematic. It was really hard for me to turn my brain off enough to not think about how silly the conflict was in this movie and how nearly any other course of action would have lead to a better outcome for everyone

Generally fun if you don’t think about it too much and can get over seeing The Rock being nonsensical. The Shazam corner of the DC Universe is really one of the few movies they get right.

Heard this mentioned as a must watch, and only knew the vauge premise… this movie made me feel like I was sitting in a pot of water just as heat was applied. It took a while to notice what was happening but as soon as you realize what is going on, the movie just becomes more and more desperate.

There were a few scenes that were difficult to watch, and I did look away a couple times because I thought it was going to be very unpleasant, but I was certainly experiencing a lot of the manic desperation that the people in this movie felt… if you’re into that sort of thing and can handle some offensive language (a few slurs and a lot of guys talking about sex), it’s worth a watch

This was free on Showtime while staying in a hotel and I thought back about how much I loved this show as a kid. I distinctly wanting to see it in theaters and I managed to convince friends to go because it was a comedy with a legendary stand-up comedian known for his one-liners (if a bit of a dinosaur from another era, even back when this was released). Also helping to sell it was Katherine Heigl, who was in another movie I really liked (My Father the Hero, also probably hasn't aged well) and that was enough for some high school guys.

The first time I saw this, I definitely had a lot of childhood innocence so most of the jokes went over my head. One thing I do that resonated with me *a lot* was identifying with Matthew/Martha for wanting to be one of the girls. I thought it was weird that he was doing it because he liked one of the girls, but this is yet another sign I missed growing up that perhaps I'm not a cis man.

I'm not sure I'd recommend this movie as there's a lot of misogyny and a lot of jokes aimed at crossdressing as well as the classic mistaken motives where the main characters are presumed to be perverted.

That said, there's still a few moments that transported back to one of the first thing that put a small crack in my egg... an egg that wouldn't break for a few decades.

I was in a hotel that offered free wifi and I was tired and just wanted a movie that might have some laughs and not take itself too seriously.

Is this going to win any awards? Not a chance, but it still tells a decent story about "indecent" people... and the movie is self aware enough to make a Pretty Woman reference. The plot is predictable enough, but there's enough enjoyable and memorable moments to make this one worth having on

Started this during a hotel stay in London, and finished it on the plane. There's something so very charming about the lives that are portrayed, even knowing that there's going to be a sinister turn. I was mainly looking for something that felt authentically British, and this thriller hit the mark perfectly.

It strikes just the right balance of creepiness and light hearted joy to keep pulling me along.

Went into this completely blind and had no idea what to expect or where this might be going, and it really was a bit of a magical experience. It's both serious and not, extremely profound at times while non-sensical and random at others.

There was a few moments where I felt like this film was trying to lead all of us towards a path where we can stop making the world worse and heal the extreme division we see today. Certainly worth a rewatch as I'm sure there's a ton of little details in this that I missed.

Let’s be clear... this is not really a great movie.. it drags in many parts and relies heavily on tropes. But it was good for a night of escapism and to roll my eyes a few times.

That said, there’s some hidden gems (ugh, sorry for the pun) in the themes of the movies and the struggles of the characters. Perhaps secret identities and being unsure of who you are or feeling like a fraud when presented with a big opportunity doesn’t resonate with many, but it does with me on many levels.

And there’s some great montages and some of the musical segments are better than I expected. There’s a 15 minute cut of this film that’s pretty amazing.

Also, there’s no world where the sequel that gets hinted at mid credits would ever be made, but I’d love to watch that train wreck too!

Finally watched a movie that has been on my watch list for nearly 35 years! Of course it’s quite dated and culturally a bit tone deaf, but it’s not too bad given the environment of the 1980’s. 

Worth a watch, and it certainly made me want to go back and watch to see if the various endings all fit into what was shown on screen, but I’d be surprised if the filmmakers goofed in any significant way. After a moment, I realized I had much better things to do with my time.

It’s worth seeing just for some of the classic moments I’ve seen referred to or parroted in later movies, but its really more of a curiosity... a relic of a bygone era of film

This has been on my list for years after it reminded me of a few movies I loved that nobody else seemed to like from 5 years before Edge of Seventeen. 

This movie just felt like it was trying too hard to be witty and outlandish at the same time. I’m still trying to figure out what the point of Woody Harrelson’s role is about. What were we supposed to think of him? Whatever that was, I’m pretty sure I didn’t get it. I can’t imagine dealing with any of the things Nadine does, let alone all of it... and all at the same time... yet somehow manage to turn it all around and nail the landing.

Overlooking its many flaws, it still connected a couple times. I needed a break from work and public health crisis and seeing someone else’s life being shitty before the whole world went to shit gave me more comfort than I’d like to it.

I now want to revisit those older movies now and see if I still love them or if it was just that they spoke to a part of me I didn’t yet know.

I saw this movie when it opened, May 2019, while on a vacation from Chicago to Australia for two weeks. I wanted to see a local Australian movie, while everything was showing Avengers: End Game

Is this movie contrived? Yeah... the premise seemed so implausible as to be laughable, but I shrugged off a few other oddities that were clearly pop culture references to Australian pop culture. In retrospect, the movie isn’t about why she has to have a rushed wedding, rather it’s the journey of how we can experience new cultures and broaden our horizons.

As someone who couldn’t find Darwin on a map of Australian, I too learned much more about indigenous culture in Australia. I like to think there’s widespread knowledge within Australia and so this is less of an educational film. It’s quite refreshing to see diversity and positive representation, without feeling exploited.  I love this movie for that.

These sorts of stories are notably missing from American Media, but it seems like our society would benefit from seeing movies like this one. 

I want to watch this again now that it’s available in the US on streaming services.

This was a surprisingly fun movie, but I’m unsure if that’s just a product of very low expectations. 

Jim Carrey was zany and eccentric and if you like him in that sort of role, you’ll enjoy this. For me, I can’t help but associate him and his style of humor with the problematic parts of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Of course, that hits closer to home and maybe others don’t make that connection.

Everything else was fun and didn’t feel like tired old tropes. You could do much worse then spending 99 minutes with this movie if you’re in the mood for a lighthearted and fun action/comedy.

I love Will Farrell. I will see pretty much every movie he’s in, and even his most ridiculous movies, always manage to have at least a scene or two that really made me laugh.

Add in another comic actress I adore, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and I’m in regardless of what the movie is about. 

Also, I am one to avoid trailers so I can enjoy movies having no idea where it’s going. I usually miss at least half the trailers in the theater and ignore them while getting settled. So, all I saw about this movie was a few seconds of Will Farrell screaming like an idiot that “all we have is everyday”, and I couldn’t wait to laugh today.

I was very mistaken... it felt like the first twenty minutes started very slow, and the foreshadowing all provided a very familiar feeling. Once the major incident happened, I realized this was a remake of a 2012 film I adored, Force Majeure, and I think the original is far better crafted, other than the stunning mountain visuals in the 2020 versions.

If I was the type to enjoy a good ski trip and dream of vacationing in the mountains, I’d sit in the theater and ignore the story, losing myself in the backgrounds and wide shots. It’s visually stunning.

I am unsure if the original hooked me more because I had never felt a movie turn so quickly and become a very small, intimate drama. Maybe the 2012 version got to the major event faster, or had more interesting storytelling. I just wasn’t invested in Julia and Will’s relationship, nor did it feel like anything was happening for the first portion of the film. It seems to set up a lot that never pays off, but perhaps it’s just that I was expecting a comedy. Surprisingly, all the comedy for me came from Sabrina’s Aunt Zelda who was some sort of odd party host.

Perhaps because 2012 was foreign film with unknown (to me) actors, I was more invested in the inner workings. It also just felt tighter with less distractions that could have been cut out.

With all that said... the intense main event is something... and I found ever character sympathetic, which is really quite a feat. I’m sure there’s some that may side with one character over the other. It also seemed like in this version the arguments felt more unrealistic and over-acted, but perhaps it’s just a byproduct of known comedic actors.

Lastly, whoever decided to drop this on Valentine’s Day should be having a discussion about that on their next performance review. This is an anti-valentines day movie. It’s a relationship that’s pushed to the limits and it is never that tender of a film. I feel like this had a much happier ending than I recall from the original, but this really just felt trite.

On nearly every , this movie let me down.

Wanted to like this more and had higher hopes for this TK be a great movie, but it met my expectations... a movie where I can see Margot Robbie be ridiculous. 

The plot is all over the place, but that tracks with a story told by Harley. I could have done without the gory bits and the excessive blunt force trauma, particularly to the lower limbs.

I’ve heard about this many years ago and put it off... ultimately, I was not as interested in how the “game” plays out, even if it is an interesting look at how random people would judge others. I feel like they could have had more of a payoff. 🤷‍♀️
