This might just be the most relevant and important piece of filmmaking this year - a well researched affirmation of america's institutionalised racism and the generational trauma of black people. I was aware of some of the history especially about media representation but this film really enlightened me about the political spectrum and how the majority of presidents have been involved in the repression of blacks from Nixon, Bush, Clinton and of course Reagan. As well through ALEC
It's absolutely saddening, and infuriating to see how the system and the law has failed. It's a reality for a large number of people who are unjustly criminalised and killed today and it all stems back to the agendas of the higher ups.
This is a well structured and paced documentary that's incredibly relevant. Ava Duvernay is wonderful and I'm thankful that she uses her platform to be vocal about issues like this one.
