My first Rohmer feature and I like this. Very talky but not in that 90s postmodern taking about nothing mumblecore prototype way. Intelligent characters discussing relationships, philosophy, jealousy, age differences. All of the characters are well written and believable. In addition, the scenery, from the Parisian apartments to the country house and garden, all lend a sense of having really been lived in rather than being a movie set. Together you feel as if these folks really have read these books as opposed to just being set dressing. Looking forward to the rest of the Seasons and his earlier works.
