Paul doesn’t seem to agree with Wolf’s approach throughout and I actually think a much more interesting doc would have granted him one last bit of autonomy over his own story. He probably should have directed it himself. Regardless, the access is still unprecedented. Reubens is a supreme artist and his particular life story is a vital portrait of a type of gay life so often un examined in other broader histories of the period. Not lesser, just different. More common than you think.
