Got to give props to BenStuart for the recommendation, truly, watch this if you have Netflix, it’s utterly beautiful in many of ways; no more so than the romance that flourishes, but it’s visually outstanding and like Ben mentioned the animation is enough of a selling point to give the film a chance.
Past the gorgeous animation is the multi layered story that delivers in balancing sci fi and romance elements to create this genuine blend of genres that kept me interested to the very end. I’m not a big romance guy either but I really didn’t mind this, I think…
HOLY SHIT?!
it's insane how such a film can just....be dumped on a streaming platform with no advertising but then again it's nothing new.
Lost in starlight is beautiful in it's animation and character work.
The lighting is gorgeous and the chemistry between the two main leads is incredible. I wish it was longer but it's such a great film with the runtime that it has.
Most of the stuff put out by netflix with this kind of runtime is like...garbage most of the time so im blown away.
Kinda relatable (no, I will not elaborate). Story and characters are alright, but the kinda wholesome soundtrack and the beautiful animation are amazing and did a lot of heavy carrying imo. Absolutely in love with them. Read that this is a Korean Your Name, but it actually reminded me more of Animated Movies Ranked
7.5/10
Those last twenty minutes were a roller-coaster. I'm sending the studio the receipts for the anxiety medication I am going to need after watching this.
everyone laughing and making fun of her dad for sending signals into space, well who’s laughing now huh (not me i am still sobbing)
Lost in Starlight has only strengthened my love for 2d animation. It’s visually jaw-dropping and oozes with personality, making the characters and environment feel genuine. Which is enhanced even further by the beautifully written story, that is crafted with such raw emotions and goes beyond a generic sci-fi movie. As the film progresses, you witness a journey of loss and love - all of which had me crying, whether it was with happiness or sadness. Lost in Starlight successfully achieved this by cleverly building their characters so that I, as a viewer, could emphasis with them.
Nan-Young and Je-i’s relationship had a gorgeous dynamic. Both truly loved one another and always encouraged the other to chase their dreams. As they simply…
“So trapped in the modern age…”
Oh, I am SWOONING over this. The central romance is conveyed so well and I think that’s because the world at large is so captivating and all-encoming. Combining a love for analog with a desire for technological progress makes for an aesthetic space that is infused with so much curiosity and appreciation and makes for an excellent source of conflict within our two leads. This desire to leap forward colliding with the inescapable tendency to hesitate in personal lives and romantic partnerships alike. It’s all very, very moving, probably because it’s animated so beautifully.
Such a shame this was unceremoniously dumped on Netflix because I think there is something so special and worth experiencing here.
