I get people saying that this feels cheap/ unfinished. However, to me that’s part of the whole thing:

Our protagonist is stuck in her grief & trauma and we are stuck with her. With the exception of very few dialogue scenes that let other people express a feeling, Elsa‘s view is all we got. The movie uses sci-fi tropes to suggest some type of trajectory: The heroine sets out to master her journey and save her brother in the end. However, soon after she starts on her path (it really is right there, isn’t it?) we realize that she is not much of a heroine at all — and with that realization, all of the careful, tender sci-fi setup of the…

we're all hostages, and we're all bastards. 

This was such a beautiful display of the way grief can consume you - control you, take your life hostage. 

Asking the audience, how far would you really go to get those you've lost back? What if it meant the lives of others? What if this sadness was already taking your own life?  

Featuring a strong and emotionally charged performance from Megan Northam as Elsa, discovering after much fighting that - you have to live, even while wishing for a life where absence didn't feel so present, so heavy. You have to live, even if all you wish for is a dream where that even feels possible.

Yeah I really dug this. Cool little sci-fi film. Takes the Babel Fish from Hitchhiker's Guide and mashes it up with Invasion of the Body Snatchers for its own clever sci-fi concept. Telling a story of a French woman searching for her lost brother (yet another film about grief, go figure). Not a knockout, but the vibrant filmmaking kept me intrigued. Loved the Dan Levy score (again - the same composer on I Lost My Body). The ending is a let down but the rest of it is quite good. Jérémy Clapin will only keep getting better the more films he makes.
