A giant brain the size of a Volkswagen! Ancient bog people who explode when they masturbate! The best thing about this movie is Cate Blanchett doing a Sandra Hüller impression doing a Lady Di impression. A camp and colourful and chaotic mess!

It's a testament to Guy Maddin that even at his most "conventional" and "accessible" (big name actors doing goofy political satire) this is still chock full of of incredible and beautiful artificial comic-horror surrealism. Bog zombies, giant glowing brains, AI pedophile hunters, and much more. With the exception of almost everything involving Roy Dupuis as the sensitive, strong, heroic, hallmark-handsome cartoon Canadian prime minister ("I LOVE STRONG WOMEN!", or every time the Lord of the Rings ass music kicked in lol) I do think the gags can get a little inconsistent due to the almost random episodic nature of how it's been structured. RUMOURS starts off hilariously as a satire of seven democratic world leaders coming together to formulate a statement on a global crisis. Initially, the frequent laughs, strong cast chemistry, and intriguing premise had me hooked. However, as the film progressed, the humor became more sporadic & less effective, and the unexplainable elements ended up weakening rather than enhancing the overall experience for me.
