The Fantastic Four

1994

★★½ Liked Watched

Could've been an actually good superhero movie with a bigger budget and more time spent with the characters. For a campy B-movie, this is actually kinda enjoyable and it feels very lore accurate. The practical sets and Thing design slaps, and this has also got a better Doctor Doom than the fox films (which isn't really a high bar). Interesting watch regardless of it's quality.

For a movie released in 1999, ye some of this hasn't really aged well. Most of the humour feels crass and dated and as a fresher, Vijay wasn't really doing his best ; or maybe this was him doing his best and his best just wasn't impressive. This was worth the hype! I've only seen Coogler's Black Panther films and while they weren't masterpieces, there was sauce and there was heart. Ryan Coogler's latest venture Sinners is an original vampire film set in the 1930s. I'm glad that a non franchise film like this made a buzz at the box office, and after watching, I'd say it was rightfully celebrated. It has engaging storytelling and raw emotion. The ensemble cast was great. Michael A Jordan and Michael…
