Some people have asked me -- no, I don't watch the movies for the show with Roger and Quentin. They get together, watch on VHS, and then send me the list of what's going to be on the episode. I typically have up to 48 hours to source the movies just like any other viewer would (and no torrenting allowed). I always pick up VHS tapes of the movies we've watched for my own personal collection, but they never get here on time for me to watch for the episode. So, I'm just like you guys, and it's been a blast :-)

However, I usually watch a movie with Q+R after we record an episode! It's our little post recording ritual to sit down and eat dinner together and watch a movie. Typically, they're on VHS (but sometimes on DVD ... and sometimes, it's even on film!). These are often times my favorite movies, but we have yet to talk about them on the show (and probably won't).

POV: It’s Friday night. Instead of going out we’ve decided to stay in and hang out. We’ve already labored over the difficult decision of what to eat (and, of course, decided on ordering Thai food like usual) — but now it’s time for the even harder choice of the night. What are we going to watch? Don’t worry, you won’t have to make that decision. You sigh a big breath of relief realizing that when you’re with me, I’ve got control of the clicker. You settle down on the comfortable couch with your curry and egg rolls, put your feet up, and prepare to watch one of these Arrow Selects...

I was really honored to do an Arrow Selects for the month of April. I watched 73 fresh titles from Arrow over the span of two months to try and make the best list possible. I noticed that other Selects had a theme to them -- double features, giallo, etc. I thought to myself, what should my theme be? Well, movies that I'd make you watch if you were on my couch, of course!

When I put together the list, I ranked all of the movies I had seen on the platform and selected 20 (the maximum number allowed for a Selects). However, I wanted to make sure that not all of the heavy hitters which are featured on every single Selects list made it onto mine ... My goal was to feature some films that may fall through the cracks on Arrow. They have so many good titles that I feel like I only scratched the surface, so hopefully I've given you some good Selects to get you started :-)

PS: Yes, they are in my ranked order, and I've let you know why I picked each in the notes!

1. Roadgames

   Roadgames was a new addition to the Player when I was just about to turn in my list. Richard Franklin is a masterful director in this serial killer thriller ... and yeah, as soon as I turned it on I fell in love with Stacy Keach.

2. The Swinging Cheerleaders

   My number two pick, The Swinging Cheerleaders was a delightful surprise. I found it really touching and a way bigger story than I expected, but that's Jack Hill for you -- you can't underestimate him! I thought I was going in for a fun romp about cheerleaders, but I came out with a wonderful story about girls helping their fellow sisters. I cried.

3. Re-Animator

   I was trying not to include movies that were on other people's lists ... but come on, it's Re-Animator. I turned on just a few minutes of it and found myself not wanting to turn it off. It's just that good. You can pop in at any moment and you're hooked. Also, for those of you that don't know, I'm a huge Jeffrey Combs fan because of his work on Star Trek.

4. Countess Dracula

   This movie was a total surprise to me. I was aware of director Peter Sasdy because of WELCOME TO BLOOD CITY, which was featured on The Video Archives Podcast, but if you guys listened to that movie you'll know that it wasn't my favorite ... Countess Dracula, on the other hand, was certified super special awesomesauce. The makeup effects in it are great and the story is compelling.

5. The Living Dead Girl

   I watched several movies from the Lesbian Vampire genre on Arrow and this one rose to the top ... mostly because it's about friendship.

6. Double Face

   Kinski is an animal. And here, in Double Face, he gets to have a lot of fun.

   The real reason why I put Double Face on my list is because of the use of miniatures in the car crash. I love it. I rewound and watched it several times.

7. The Suspicious Death of a Minor

   The Suspicious Death of a Minor was my introduction to Sergio Martino, and as you can tell by him having two movies on my list, I enjoyed him a great deal. This film was chosen because of one of the stunts in a chase sequence. I won't say which one in particular as to not give it away, but if you're curious send me a message or comment on Instagram and I'll let you know!

8. Island of the Fishmen

   Originally I had not wanted to include two from the same director, but Island of the Fishmen's (AKA Screamers) bleeding chest was just too good not to include.

9. The Slayer

   This movie surprised me with its pacing and violence. I had turned it on in the background while I was doing something else and soon found myself glued to the screen.

10. Cemetery Without Crosses

    I tried to get into Spaghetti Westerns while on Arrow ... but just couldn't. Budd Boetticher for LIFE!

    However, Cemetery Without Crosses has one really amazing shot towards the end that I rewound to watch. It earned its spot on my list.
