Batman & Robin

1997

★½ 1

Was this an attempt to get into the Guinness Book of World Records for most terrible movie lines? Because it should've gotten in. There are just enough lingering so-bad-it's-good nostalgic strings to get me through to the end. Good thing the cast is mostly likeable.

Thor: The Dark World

2013

★★★ 1

Doesn't deserve its bad rap.

Mulan

2020

★★½ Watched

The things I do for Oscar prep.

I’m not huge on the original, so I don’t really care for comparisons, but I’ll it the lush production is pretty impressive. Will not be mad if it gets tech noms tomorrow. The wooden script lets it down of course, rendering it hollow.

Dashcam

2021

Watched

I can't say I was bored, but I could never get over how annoying the lead is.

edit: docked a star in hindsight after learning that Annie Hardy shares her character's views so the film was not acting as a sloppy critique of MAGA behaviour but is instead culpable and as a result, reprehensible.

Cats & Dogs

2001

★★½ Rewatched

Objectively considered the best film of all-time when I was 8.

Prisoners of the Ghostland

2021

★★★½ Watched

Wild.

The Good, the Bart, and the Loki

2021

★★ Watched

Jarring to watch this while halfway through season 1 of The Simpsons.

Edit: I genuinely thought it ended and didn’t see they were doing a mid and post credits gag. Docked a half star for lame structure.

Jack Frost

1998

★★½ Liked Rewatched

Yeah, this was one of those movies that I used to watch all the time just because it had 'Jack' in the title. It's fine, for a 90s kids movie, the biggest challenge is the suspension of disbelief for the conceit. I already banked that though, so...

Halloween Kills

2021

★★½ 1

Confused by the people calling the previous one a masterpiece and this one a travesty. They're the same amount of mediocre.

The Incredible Hulk

2008

★★ 2

I always put off MCU binges because I didn't want to watch this and I'm too much of a completist to skip it. For the most part, it's not as bad as I , if definitely a generally mediocre movie. Ang Lee's Hulk was one of my least favourite movies (another film I should give a second chance), so given it was only 5 years beforehand, that disappointment was still fresh in my mind and I wasn't in the mood…

John and the Hole

2021

★★★★ Liked 5

A bone dry sociopathic satire. I loved it. I'm aware all my friends are hating it.

Maybe as someone who didn't feel like an adult until I left my family behind in another country, I found it more affecting? Though it's not like I put them in a hole or anything.

Batman Forever

1995

★★ 2

Here is a list of movies that came out in 1995 in no particular order:

• Heat
• 12 Monkeys
• Fallen Angels
• Batman Forever
• Strange Days
• Dead Man
• The City of Lost Children
• Babe
• Se7en
• Apollo 13
• Before Sunrise
• The Usual Suspects
• La Haine
• Casino
• Welcome to the Dollhouse

Now guess which film was the only one Oscar nominated for Best Cinematography ???
