Before I get into the review, I want to acknowledge that seeing this film on 70mm was an absolute delight, and I want to thank Prince Charles Cinema for being an incredible independent theater.

By far my best blind watch. I saw Paul Thomas Anderson and 70mm which was enough to sell me a 14 pound ticket to a theater in a foreign country I had never been to. Needless to say, I was not disappointed an ounce.

Genuinely a really hard watch.

Has more to say about tabloid culture and taking advantage of a vulnerable public figure than it does specifically about Amy Winehouse, but it still humanizes her beyond her being just a drinking and drug machine. Also learned that her writing wasn't just deeply personal, but actually literally autobiographical, which kind of quells some production issues I have on Back to Black. This film is structured in such a way that even if you've never listened to any Amy Winehouse, you'll come out caring about her music, her struggle, and her legacy. What a generational talent.

I went into this movie thinking it would be a completely dogass, unfunny, bloated mess.
