Captain America: Brave New World

one of the most lifeless and amateurish blockbusters ever made. only watched this because I was tired after work and didn't want to watch something that needed much brain power, but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad. the MCU just needs to end now, it has run its course

a beautiful swan song to a franchise I love dearly and a film that recontextualizes every prior entry to essentially function as a stepping stone to this. every action Ethan has made, every life he touched or didn't touch, has led him - and them - to this moment, everything you do (or don't do) means something and it may all culminate one day into something that can only be described as destiny. in…

an utterly gorgeous looking film, kind of the ideal for what a fantasy film should look like - Rob Bottin's effects work and the set design are wonderful too - and so it's a real shame it's all in service of a very dull, mostly generic and quite often annoying (that elf kid in particular was very irritating) kids film.

excellent cast, loved the moment of Pitt being able to watch the sunset via cinema, but otherwise this was honestly rather dull. there's only so much you can do with a Vampire story apparently and it means most of these films/literature all feel very similar and unless you are formally interesting (this isn't) then there's not a whole lot to really latch onto
