as someone who is absolutely obsessed with supernatural and religious horror, i’m not usually phased by it. this was terrifying.
not exactly filled with jump scares, but spiders under your skin, breath constricting, absolutely uncomfortable dread. the way that each frame feels empty eventually parallels how your heart feels after watching this. the way that space and lighting are used in this conjures the feeling that someone is right behind you about to strike.
maika monroe and nicholas cage are sensational, with cage being unrecognizable and relentlessly scary.
go see this literally as soon as possible. you will be on the edge of your seat from the very first frame.
