DNA cinephile🏳️🌈’s review published on Letterboxd:
Mumford. 1999. Directed by Lawrence Kasdan.
Mumford plays like a fairy tale fantasy. The ensemble cast makes it feel like a Robert Altman film and the nested storytelling made it interesting for the entire run time. Mumford didn’t really use Freudian psychology to tell its stories as much as it used listening to each character tell their stories. This was 1999 and the people of Mumford had a voice as long as they trusted their local psychologist: Mumford.
Loren Dean, Jason Lee, Alfre Woodward, and Mary McDonnell turned up the psychosexual energy in Mumford in creative ways. Mumford, himself, was a bit of a Cupid or matchmaker. Lawrence Kasdan wrote this creative play that is full of entertainment. The only fault I could find was the soundtrack wasn’t pleasant to me. However, that is subjective for each viewer. Nevertheless, I think Mumford deserves at least 3.5 stars.
