Given this centers on sexual exploitation and the trauma, it probably needed a better protagonist, one who wouldn’t think about killing his daughter after finding out what she has been subjected to. The evident glorification of the male savior is quite nauseating, especially when the movie needed to show empathy towards the victims and put them at the forefront. We have had enough of these problematic male characters being all righteous and vengeful. This is 2025; there can’t be any excuse for a movie of this kind being rooted in inherent misogyny.

Here is an atmospheric horror which uses the jump scare technique perfectly. A brilliant film from start to finish, carefully crafted in a way that gives you time to get familiar with the characters and its world first, before unleashing the horror quotient in a smart, bone-chilling fashion.

Easily my favorite horror of the year, after The Witch and The Wailing.
