Following years of critical acclaim as Dexter on the small screen, this is a great film role for Michael C. Hall - showing vulnerability as family man and local business owner, Richard Dane, in small-town Texas in the late eighties. Dane confronts a unarmed burglar and kills him; in 1989 Texas, Dane is completely within his rights, even praised by locals. He’s told he has killed a convicted felon, and learns that the intruder’s recently released father is returning to town, enraged at the death of his son.
