I don’t care, it’s still fun as hell and my little pea brain likes seeing all the pokemon I love pop up on screen for a little bit. It gives me a rush of pure joy the whole time.
Might help that Psyduck is my favorite Pokemon and as far as the pokemon go he’s second billed under Pikachu. Also a massive Pangoro fan and there was a lot more Pangoro in this than i ed.
I’ve come around a bit to this since I first saw it, but it’s still kind of a big meh.
The singing ranges from genuine Broadway quality to barely able community theater (looking at you Russell Crowe) and the overly melodramatic tone and pacing oddly make it feel extremely emotionally distant for the entire runtime. Even in what should be extremely powerful moments from Anne Hathaway or Hugh Jackman end up feeling too distant to really bring anything beyond appreciation…
Perhaps it’s my desire to finally have a truly great pro wrestling movie (sorry to The Wrestler fans) but this hit on nearly every level I wanted and hoped it would.
