I still stand by my original review.
this is still a really solid movie in my opinion.

people calling this the worst movie of the year are blowing this out of water.
Is it flawed? Yes.
Could it have been better? Yes.
Does this first half burn through too many songs quickly to the point where it feels like this was Abel’s way of offloading Music videos to some of the songs on his album? YES.

But is this poorly made, lacking ambition or ion, terribly shot, or completely boring?
Nope. Not at all. 

Think about this. If Abel’s acting in this is truly awful then why is there only one clip that’s constantly being reposted about his bad acting? Surely if his acting is atrocious there should be way more clips that are being reposted with the caption “who told bro he can act?”
Quirky Meme Twitter s only know how to repost other people’s content of course, but still where are the other examples of his bad acting?

A Masterclass in Directing, Writing And Acting Thudarum is definitive proof that Mohanlal has not missed a beat when it comes to his craft.

His lackluster choices in film scripts might say otherwise but when this thespian Gets a chance to perform to a script that matches his talent he absolutely knocks it out of the park. 

A modern classic in every sense of the word. A Herculean Performance with a powerful director behind the camera leads to a movie that one of Mohanlal’s Best and easily his best outing in recent memory. 
Thudarum doesn’t just sur the bar of quality for Malayalam cinema (which is already insanely high).
It creates a new bar of quality for Indian Cinema as  a whole.

nothing like the comfort of a infinity saga marvel movie.
seriously I could watch any of those films + any new spiderman movie any time. Call it blind nostalgia but man this is such comfort food movies for me. 
Unless it’s Ant Man and Ant Man and The Wasp.

This deserves to be on the same level as The Shining in of Stephen King Adaptations.

The shining is definitely the better film and it barely counts as a Stephen King Adaptation because of its changes to the source material. But Misery deserves to be talked about on the same level as More Renowned Stephen King Adaptations like The Shining, IT, etc. 

Tbh the thing that made me rewatch this was The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow whose second half is heavily inspired by misery. I that movie being called a “loose remake” of Misery prior to it getting an official name. And tbh I wish that movie leaned into that more. I think it’s a great story that The Weeknd could have smartly repackaged for modern day audiences. But instead it’s merely referenced in visuals and concept only.

Side tangent aside this is a horror classic. I love Movies.

A Modern Day Action Classic.
Possibly the Best One after Ghost Protocol for me. But arguably the best in of the film making. 

Truly an achievement in Action.

Nah but seriously why do I fw this movie’s sense of humor especially in the first half before they get to the Minecraft world. 
It’s definitely a tier above like a low quality dreamworks movie in of humor. I gotta check out more of Jared Hess’s work.

Movie’s bad, but dude it’s actually good. I had so much fun.

This isn’t the idol where I can’t possibly see what someone would like about it.
Even as a diehard Weeknd fan I really didn’t like it. In fact I hated it. It represents the only Major stain in his otherwise spotless track record.

Hurry Up Tomorrow on the other hand is a film that I can definitely see why someone would like/love.

But I can also see just as many reasons as to why someone would hate/despise.

There’s no in between. Personally I really really enjoyed it. It’s not without its flaws of course but it’s a solid movie with inarguably fantastic cinematography. Nauseating? Yes. But I think that’s part of the point. It’s meant to be like a drink Coachella concert and towards the 2nd and 3rd act it becomes far more stable almost to a painful degree. But the detox is very much needed.

Abel’s acting while not atrociously bad like the idol is still lacking that spark. He can act. Yes. Well? Ehh….
It doesn’t help that two of the movies other lead stars are just exceptional stars who are putting in the work and next to them Abel just looks dull, even if his acting in a scene is good or inoffensive.

Calling this a vanity project is a little far fetched though. I doubt a vanity project would be this scrutinizing of its star. Abel does not paint himself as the best person in this movie. Like at all. And that vulnerability is very few artists have and let alone willing to express on the big screen.

THIS is the singular reason I have hope for Hurry Up Tommorow.

This ain’t even half bad bro, you can clearly tell there was a clear love for the character and especially his mythology.

That first shot of him on the cross is genuinely fantastic (I’m not saying that again)
The director’s cut is the only version btw.

Stay well away from Elektra though, Jesus Christ.

Wes Anderson’s best film fight me. 
(I haven’t seen anything of his besides Asteroid City and The Grand Budapest Hotel so yes my opinion is valid)

After the hype this is kinda mid won’t lie. 
The theatre experience really enhances this one I’m afraid at home it’s just kinda ok.

Extremely late to the party I realize but never late than ever, ESPECIALLY in this case.

What a Herculean story, masterfully directed and acted. Filled with immense Suspense and tension while at the same time displaying the most innate yet powerful human emotion of all time. Love. Truly one of Malayalam Cinema’s Best in a year full of some of their best. Don’t miss this one.

The humor isn’t as good or out there as the first film.

But holy shit the action scenes are incredible please get David Leitch to make a Deathstroke movie. 

The humor isn’t as consistently good as the first one but man when they land, they land FAR better than the first one. The X Force scene? The post credits scene? Classics as far as I’m concerned.
Feels like this movie is somewhat overlooked because it isn’t the franchise starter, nor is it the big crossover movie with Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine. It’s just the film in between both. Remove this film and nothing really changes. But this is still a solid action comedy film.

Rewatching the Deadpool I just realized how sick the action is in these movies. The flow and kinetic energy present in all three of these movies is quite awesome.

Despite its very intentional crass humor and excessive violence, the movie still has enough of a heart to make you care for its character a balance that has not been achieved in most other meta comedy centric films. 

Overall, I think this movie turned out better than Anyone expected it to and it gave us one of the most solid recent superhero trilogies.

Wasn’t necessary considering how perfect the initial trilogy was but, a worthy successor to the Caesar trilogy. Containing the same incredible visual effects, acting and world building as those three films. The directing is solid albeit a bit more basic compared to the masterpieces directed by Matt Reeves. 

Overall probably the least impressive film in the modern apes series both narratively and structurally but still a great film full of mythology, likeable characters and a clear respect for what came before it.

Exactly what we needed from movies. The perfect summer romp. But also the kind of movie you’d rarely rewatch after the first time in the theater and maybe once at home, which is an increasing problem for modern MCU movies. D&W isn’t as bad with it, but I’ll have to see if I have any desire to rewatch this puppy soon. 

But as it stands. This is exactly what I thought it was going to be. Just an endlessly fun buddy cop film with two actors with unbelievable chemistry. The team up we’ve all wanted for years. And it’s finally here.

Wild.

I can see what all the hype is about.
This Movie’s one Primary Godzilla city destruction scene has far more impact than any of the recent monsterverse films.
It’s astounding what they managed to do with a relatively smaller budget than whatever the American films are doing.
This is far more up my alley than what the monsterverse is doing right now. 
Grounded, gritty, emotional.
Less Godzilla X Kong and more…Godzilla 2014. Which I like a lot more than the newer films.

Just breathtaking. Ruthless. Heart- Wrenching.

Glad to see this wasn’t just Indian John wick. So much nuanced political and social commentary alongside some experimental directing and editing choices.
Lot of respect for Dev for pulling this movie off as a director, writer and the main lead. MADD props to this dude I’ve been a fan since slumdog millionaire and it’s crazy to see how far he’s come.

Hell yes. This is cinema.

Absolutely Gorgeous.

Kung Fu Panda 4 is a solid animated movie that’s better than a lot of its contemporaries however it’s easily the least memorable entry in this particular franchise.
I think the biggest problem is that everything feels undercooked. The core concepts are interesting yet it feels like the film makers ran out of time and quickly hurried to finish the movie. The action scenes are solid but not as good as 2 or 1. About the same as 3 I’d say. Better even. 
I think dreamworks were so full hands on deck with the bad guys and puss in boots 2 that this movie ultimately turned into a backseat project. The innovative animation techniques in those movies are sparsely seen here and it’s obvious the film makers want to incorporate spider verse like elements into the film. However they don’t go fully into that direction and stick with traditional but polished CGI animation which is the best it has been. But I see glimmers of a movie that’s as exhilarating in its action as the bad guy, puss in boots or the Spiderverse films.

The villain poses a neat physical challenge for Po but as a character? Completely wasted. Does not contain even an inch of development or backstory as any of the villains in the previous three movies. And the climax is seemingly rushed with Po far too easily beating what can easily be considered his most imposing physical foe.

The film also commits the same error as kung fu panda 3 by reusing a lot of things from its predecessor but simply replacing it with something new. Hard to explain without spoilers but you may get it. There’s a formula for these movies now. The new character Zhen is likeable but I’m not super into what they did with her at the end. I’m not convinced, but if they want to make another movie with her and po I don’t mind seeing her again and perhaps they can finally convince her why…it’s her.

Over solid. But not great.

The guy who made Paddington 2 made a good film. 
Shocking.
But like I have no idea why anybody had any doubts. If they simply took one look at who’s directing they would have known the film was going to be amazing.

No one expected this movie to be this good when it came out right?

Zack Snyder is an interesting Man for sure. Divisive wouldn’t quite some it up. Personally he’s my favorite director of all time.

Rebel Moon is The latest film from Zack Snyder made with his ongoing partnership with Netflix, who previously also produced Army of the dead and Army of Thieves.
Rebel moon is a “Mature” take on Star Wars that Zack pitched to Lucasfilms before they were bought out by Disney. The script was rejected and was kept in the back burner, while Zack put his energy to other projects such as his DC films. 

As a Diehard Zack Snyder fan, is this film enjoyable to me? Yes.
However is it without flaws? Absolutely not.

I felt a similar way to this film as I did to Zack’s previous film Army of the Dead. A concept that’s absolutely inspired in both cases. A Zombie heist movie set in Vegas and a mature take on a Star Wars movie inspired by Akira Kurosawa?
Sign me up.

However despite that initial spark of genius that Zack had with these two films, I feel like there’s a lot of missed potential. 

Regardless of how the director’s cut turns out I can only give my opinion of the film that we currently have with us. And the film we have available to watch on Netflix is a visually stunning, yet an undercooked sci fi movie that feels derivative in many areas. However if you’re willing to look past the cliches of the film, Rebel Moon is an Enjoyable ride. But nothing spectacular.

I’ll be on the lookout for The second part of Zack’s Newest Sci Fi project.

Shah Rukh Khan has had an extraordinary comeback year. He quickly went from an actor who many saw as well past his prime in the late 2010’s to now the savior of Bollywood post 2020. I’m so glad he took the break to revaluate his script choices and Pathaan was a solid step forward. While a relatively usual popcorn film it did everything right for the genre it was in and that made it one of the most enjoyable movies of the year.
I was anxious about Jawan as it was a very different film to Pathaan both in of tone and approach to using SRK. It was an experimental film coming in the same year as the failsafe Pathaan. The early trailers  didn’t really give me an impression of what to expect either. All I knew was the movie looked interesting and that the music was going to be incredibly amazing.
I’m so glad to say Jawan is an exceptionally well thought out, well crafted action movie that also doesn’t skim out on its fair share of social commentary.
Anirudh Ravichander NEVER disappoints and Jawan might be his best work yet.

As a massive fan of this series and its long standing lore I was excited for this. It both surprised me in many ways and also disappointed me in other ways.
but man calling this horror is very much a stretch.

“Ken is Me”

God this movie is literally the letterboxd twitter cinephile movie.
And I love it.
Barbie is a hilarious, wacky, whimsical and at times unexpectedly heartfelt rom that never manages to overstay its welcome. The plot is so tightly knit there’s not a moment the film lingers on if it doesn’t need to. The pacing of this film is quite frankly perfect. From start till end it’s an engaging, colorful and gorgeous. The sets are incredible. Barbie land is bought to life in stunning detail with everything looking plastic but not like…fake? It’s hard to explain. Like it never feels inauthentic like you can believe this place is inhabited even though it’s all plastic…never mind I give up just watch the movie.
Now obviously there’s a certain group of very level headed people who are going to be triggered by the movie because of its premise. 
Which is why you should never listen to those people. Anything beyond a surface level inspection of the film reveals it’s not just a man hating, woman empowering and men are bad movie. It’s a in a way a coming of age story a genre Director Greta Gerwig is obviously very familiar with. It’s about finding yourself in a world full of expectations. At the core it’s about learning to accept yourself and find who you are without considering who you are in the eyes of others. The last few minutes of the movie I won’t lie got to me. The heart of the film really spoke to me and I’m sure a lot of people. Both Ken and Barbie’s plot lines are beautifully wrapped up, both of their characters find themselves and it’s masterfully done especially Barbie. Nearly shed a tear I won’t lie. Barbie and Ken are of course played Excellently by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, with Gosling having impeccable comedic timing that I did not expect from him. Will Farrell and his whole subplot felt disconnected from the plot sometimes but never fails to make me laugh these grown ass men in suits get up to wacky shit. 
Barbie is a once in a lifetime movie. It’s a movie that under the guise of a brand merchandise movie, tells a powerful story about embracing and accepting yourself. It’s a smart, witty and beautiful film with lots of things to say about Humans and our relationship with The things we create such as Barbie Toys.

The Babadook is a gripping and unnerving depiction of grief, insanity and fear of madness.
It’s a seemingly simple concept and story that’s turned into a refreshingly subtle and intelligent film. Monster films and Horror Films Post the Conjuring have all felt very similar in tone and Style. It’s usually a dark house where moments of silence are intercut with a jumpscare. 
It’s a very cliche formula that has become a staple. However very few horror movies besides the original two Conjuring films directed by James Wan have managed to replicate this with any actual success besides a shallow box office intake.
Audiences’s expectations and standards for horror film have be skewed for more than a decade. 
And thats why for some this slow burn story may not work. That’s why This simple story of a mother and a child dealing with loss and grief may come off as meaningless to many. But to those seeking for intelligent, well thought and genuinely frightening and unsettling horror this is it. Modern horror films don’t get this good unless we’re talking about more conceptual films like Get out or Midsommar. Monster based horror films do not get this good is what I meant. The Babadook creates this monster whose design is so simple yet terrifying straight out of a bed time story and turns its whole presence into a manifestation. It never shows the creature in excruciating detail but rather lets your mind fill in the rest which if often times the scarier option.
The films score is mostly absent. With most big budget horror movies they feel the need to overly score with ear grating “scary” music that all sort of sound similar. Horror movies have forgotten that often Silence is the scariest. And another thing they’ve forgotten is how to effectively set a creepy and haunted atmosphere. 
The Babadook is a film I’ve dodged around for years. But it’s a movie that deserves more love and attention.

I really only came on here to review the best of the best huh.
Uhhhhh might be funny for the average 6 year old KSI fan from 2014.
But an headache for anyone else

How is this a thing?

An adrenaline pumping Action Spectacle Jailer is a criminally Fun time.
Rajinikanth Is a God amongst men for many. In Hollywood you of course have popular actors with large fan bases. However it is nothing compared to how Major Actors and Actresses are treated In Indian cinema where they are literally gods. Rajinikanth’s fanbase is nearly a religion in itself.
While sometimes this obsession can lead to repercussions it also leads to opening nights that are absolutely a joyride. Everyone is cheering and the movie deliberately stylizes and lingers on cheer worthy moments. Jailer is no different. 
It’s a crime thriller at its best and Rajinikanth even at the ripe old age of 72 is still giving it his all. He is never out of his depth in any scene or moment. Besides all the hype he genuinely is a fantastic actor who conveys a vast range of emotions. Everyone gives a solid performance including the villain of the movie is genuinely compelling as much as he is psychotic. A more than enough match for a Rajinikanth Movie. Which translates to the hero is invincible.
Jailer does start to lose focus towards the end of the second act where is shifts from a high stakes dramatic action thriller to an awkward and out of place Comedy Action film. This is a common problem I’ve noticed with serious Indian Masala (yes that’s a genre for these big action blockbusters) films have. There’s usually a focus on some comedic or romantic elements later on in the movie to let the audience breathe, however this is a move that only serves to distract people who are actually invested in the best parts of the movie. 
At its best this is a pouncing stylized action thriller and I think it didn’t need to slow down to let casual audiences take a moment to breathe. It just seems like a cop out.

Regardless Jailer is an excellent movie from start to finish. It’s unnerving in its brutality and euphoric in its depiction of an actor who is nearly a god in many people’s eyes.

Probably the best movie I’ve ever starred in

Oppenheimer is a scorching, haunting and thrilling Biopic about one of America’s most controversial figures. 
I always knew this movie was going to be great. As a Massive Nolan fan I was expecting greatness even after his last film Tenet, underwhelmed (confused) me. Add to that the incredible list of A List Actors and I knew this was going to be a very special experience in the cinema.
And it was. Oppenheimer is an astonishing achievement in film making in nearly every category. From performances to sound design to the cinematography and more. There’s three things that make this movie unlike any other biopic you’ll ever see or have seen.
The Performances, Sound Design/Score and…. Nolan.

The performances are incredible. Top to bottom. There isn’t a single person phoning it in. In every scene the actor and the character are one and the same. Special shout outs to RDJ Who I didn’t expect to be this good in the film. And of course. Cillian Murphy. What a powerhouse actor indeed. I mean the man was already incredibly talented to begin with but outside of Peaky Blinders this is his first main big leading man movie and he absolutely demolishes it. He plays Oppenheimer hauntingly, every stare lurches deep into your soul. There is never a dull moment with him.

The score and sound design make this a must watch in the theatre. Ludwig is back from Tenet and I’m so glad he is. The score is absolutely mesmerizing, and makes certain scenes feel even more impactful than they already are. The sound design is absolutely astonishing. The theatre shakes in fear of this movie.

And Nolan. Nolan’s film making style has been divisive among some people. With some seeing it as confusing, needlessly complicated and lack of character whereas the others think it’s creative, thrilling and ingenious. I’ve been on both sides so far with Tenet being the one that steered me towards the negative side. Oppenheimer is his best film since interstellar in my opinion. Nolan has long struggled with having characters who act like real people. At times they feel like plot devices who spout out plot relevant information and they have maybe on hint of a tragic backstory (usually a dead wife). Interstellar breaks that notion and so does Oppenheimer. Every character is interesting, well written and intriguing to watch. The writing between them is the closest I’ve seen someone pull off Aaron Sorkin levels of dialogue. In place of action scenes, a simple conversation between a board and Oppenheimer is enough to get you on the edge of your seat. It’s searingly well written and thrilling. Every moment of the film is like a ticking time bomb of mystery and intrigue , every scene builds up and has a pay off later. Then the cycle repeats. All of this makes Oppenheimer an action with dialogue and characters.
Oppenheimer is also Nolan’s most grounded work to date and the cinematography reflects that. It’s a movie that at times chooses the simple approach but always looks absolutely professional. More so than many of the big “blockbusters” we’ve seen this year. But then at times it becomes incredibly creative, illustrious and haunting. It’s a treat to the eyes and ears.

Oppenheimer is the movie we needed now. In this day and age where the validity and standard of film is constantly being questioned due to oversaturation of IP films like Marvel and more, Oppenheimer shows us what the art form is capable of. Nolan pulls of his trickiest, most morally ambiguous film to date and easily his best film to date.

On a Technical Level First Man is an undisputed Masterpiece. The film is gorgeously shot, almost every frame could be a wallpaper.
The film is shot on authentic 35mm and 16mm film to replicate the era in which the film is set in, giving it a unique look and color palettes.
You can nearly taste the film grain.
Damien Chazelle once again showcases how he knows how to put up frames that are nearly fairy tale like in its aesthetic.
The sound design is excellent as well, with rumblings and engine sounds that really bring out the best and worst of space travel.
The film is a biopic which is considerably Damien’s most odd film genre so far but he takes a much more serious approach with it than most would something which comes with its benefits and problems. But for now I’ll say that I think it gives each scene a sense of importance. The film does not shy away from showing the true miracle that is successful space travel. Every attempt at launch feels like anything could go wrong and in these intense moments the film really shines. 

Now onto negatives, which there are a lot of. First of all the film moves at a breakneck pace. Now this isn’t a bad thing as it keeps everything moving and interesting however sometimes it feels like many scenes end before their given time to breathe. The movie explores a lot of Neil’s Personal life, his family, etc. However while these scenes are intriguing and well written they all feel like they have 5 minutes shaved off from the end of it. It feels like these scenes never organically end before it moves onto the next scene. It feels like the movie is going through a checklist of events without giving too much time or thought into how it reaches there. There’s a lack of a cohesive structure to the movie up until the very end. 
In trying to be poignant the movie cuts off every scene at the peak of its emotional stakes which doesn’t allow us to have everything sink in. 
There’s a lack of fluidity in plot progression that Damien Chazelle’s other movies have. It feels like a story that’s really beautiful and well written but you only see glimpses of it. 
And also while I think pretty much Every Performance is great, Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong…..I just don’t buy it. He’s a terrific actor don’t get me wrong and he isn’t terrible here but he lacks any proper range. He’s pretty much stoic throughout the whole movie which I know is his thing but this is a portrayal of a real human being. Not a cool guy who drives.

Obviously This movies a dramatization of real events but this feels like a step too far. It’s almost melodramatic how little Neil opens up to others around him including his wife and kids. I’m sure Neil struggled with this stuff in real life too but not in the way the movie portrays it. Damien’s really good at showing people, artists and visionaries who get eaten up their work and this isn’t too different. But it lacks nuance and as a result it comes off as a fine performance that needed more flavor.

First Man is an inarguably well made film. It’s a film that’s worthy of the theatre experience and contains a plethora of poignant emotions and moments. However it’s clunky plot structure and Slightly Melodramatic Portrayal of the First Man on the moon make it a biopic that’s worth watching yet gives you very little reason to go back. It was so close to reaching its full potential but ultimately it halted halfway through its journey.

I rank the Batman films Before the Batman and after I watch it I update it with The Batman. What an original idea! Aside from Batman and Robin none of these movies are truly bad. Even Batman and Robin has some redeeming elements.
