It's about time there was an adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front made by Germans, since the last two were made by American studios. It's as brutal as the 1930 version with battle scenes that are more bloody and dirtier than any other World War 1 film yet, and I do like the addition of scenes with the high command and those who are going to sign the armistice.
My main problem with the film is the pacing; it really loses steam towards the end, especially with the last battle scene which didn't take place in the book at all. Another problem is the score to this film, it sounded awful and it felt out of place! It would have been better to not use a soundtrack at all. One more thing is the ending, I wish they had left in the original ending which would have been a lot more impactful than the one used in this film.
I'd say this was an enjoyable movie, it's a good adaptation as well! But if I were to choose between the three All Quiet on the Western Front films, then it's the 1930s version all the way.
