Just because you have a strong theme with an important message doesn't mean continuity doesn't matter. When it's not being jarring enough for an easy critic like me to notice the story was just, dismal. The whole point is the family cycling, at first I wanted to say spiraling but even if they spiraled down that could constitute a big change for the family and that's not the point. They're trapped in a cycle of misunderstandings and ineptness to deal with the issues of mental health. I can recommend a number of films that deal with the seriousness of mental health that are genuinely good films.
