August really slipped away like a bottle of wine, huh? Anyway, I’m back, telling you about all the awesome things that are happening in September at Yorck Kinogruppe.
First up, we are adding another film series to the Wednesdays at Odeon rotation.
In addition to TORMENT NEXUS (all about AI and SciFi, based on the meme). You can read all about it here. Spike Jonze’s Her will be the first film of the series. Come by on September 4th at 8:30 pm for some SciFi Romance. Actually, come by at 7pm for a Gin Tonic or an Aperol Spritz at the special outdoor Odeon bar which will be there every Wednesday, until the late-summer days are over and it gets too cold.
While I’m at it... on the 18th we’re going to Harvard with Elle Woods on a perfect day to watch Legally Blonde. And then the week after that we have another edition of the Classic Sneak, but the film title will of course remain a secret.
Also this month, the delphi LUX is hosting the annual Queerfilmfestival from the 5th to the 11th. For the sixth time, the Queerfilmfestival is bringing the best non-heteronormative films of the year to the big screen. Amongst them is Close To You, starring Elliot Page. Check out the full program here!
In of regular releases we are excited for Elbow, one of the most exciting films of the Generation section at this years Berlinale. The film adaptation of Fatma Aydemir's novel of the same name tells the story of a young German-Turkish woman's self-discovery in Berlin and Istanbul. You may have already noticed by our Yorcker cover that we are huge fans of the film, which is why we are thrilled to host our very own special screening on Sep 11 with Aslı Özarslan and Fatma Aydemir in attendance.
Also on the 5th of September we will be showing the re-release of Pulp Fiction, which is turning 30 years old!
The week after that we FINALLY get Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long awaited and highly anticipated sequel to the Tim Burton Classic, starring Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton. This time round we get to meet Astrid, Lydia Deetz’s Daughter, played by Jenna Ortega. Venice already got to see the film this week and we can’t wait to dive back into the crazy world of Beetlejuice (oops, now I wrote his name three times).
On the 19th MUBI will bring us The Substance. A movie starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley as … the same person? Sort of? We shall find out!
That’s a lot of dates and info in one go, so I’ll leave it at that.
Very demure, very mindful.
