This film was absolutely incredible. There’s a modern sense to the acting, with a camera which is largely static, but isn’t afraid of grand movements. The acting is so compelling, one understands so much through it, with the intertitles just adding additional context. Silent films, no matter how much I like them, such as Battleship Potemkin, still have moments that struggle to keep my attention.
