Laurie Metcalf does more acting in her drive at the airport than some actors do in their entire careers.
That’s all.
(Also this is most DEFINITELY in my top 5 films of the decade.)
The scene where Ali’s Juan unpacks the meaning of the word “faggot” to Chiron is one of the most well-written, well-acted, and well-directed scenes of the past decade - hell, maybe even the past century. I had such a visceral reaction to it on my first watch, and the impact still remains, almost three years later. Definitely my favorite Best Picture winner in recent memory, by FAR.
Barry Jenkins, never stop making movies.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
“Prejudice always obscures the truth.”
Practically perfect and painfully prescient. The more things change, the more they stay the same... though the ending of this film never fails to make me momentarily regain faith in humanity and the American justice system so bravo!

Yeah, uh, believe the hype for Sound of Metal.
Riz Ahmed is absolutely astounding, and if the Academy ignores his work here, they’re out of their miiinds. A harrowing, heartbreaking, and humane handling of the deaf experience, strengthened by spectacular sound design.
That ending is also an all-timer.
I have a million movies to get around to on my watchlists on the seventy streaming services I’m subscribed to but sometimes you just need to spend your Saturday rewatching Almost Famous and tonight is one of Those Nights™ oops
(Movies genuinely don’t get any better than this, folks)
