Literally a shot of serotonin STRAIGHT to my brain and if you somehow can’t crack a smile at least ONCE during this film I think you just hate fun!!!

Wonder Woman 1984

★★★½ Liked 4

Wonder Woman 1984 trades in the sharpness of its predecessor for a story that is a bit “sillier” – and a tad too crowded as well, shortchanging a few ing characters – but, in the end, Gal Gadot’s charm & charisma in the title role is as enthralling as ever, and the effervescent entertainment that director Patty Jenkins provides here is simply too ravishing to resist – especially in a year starved for bombastic & big-hearted blockbuster escapism like this.

Mulan

I was seriously not looking forward to this at allllll because the original Mulan is one of my favorite films of all-time (it holds a very, very special spot in my heart), and I also thought I’d miss the songs and sidekicks too much to ever fully engage with the material. The trailers were honestly pretty lukewarm in my opinion too, draining out the energy and excitement of the animated film.

And yet... I ended up really enjoying this somehow?…

UPDATE: I just spent like two hours reading “questions answered” articles and uhhhh holy shit this is beyond brilliant so I’m raising my score sorry not sorry

My head HURTS but... I think I still had a good time ???

Let’s be clear: the thing is overly enigmatic to a FAULT (with Nolan doubling down on virtually every characteristic of his filmmaking that’s been critiqued over the years, from his endless exposition to his paper-thin protagonists) and yet... I can’t…

Absent-Dunkirk, I rarely enjoy many war movies, so color me quite surprised that I had a terrific time with this one. Sure, the script is as thin as the paper it was printed on, and it’s without complex characterizations of any kind, but Hanks is reliably riveting, and the propulsive pacing keeps the drama from ever becoming dull.

Currently beside myself over the fact that I wasn’t able to experience this stellar sound design in an IMAX theater, but such is life at the moment :’)

Here to announce that I will personally be leading Margot Robbie’s Best Actress campaign for this film and we will be using the scene where she breaks Roman’s driver’s knees for her Oscar clip, that is all

2020 has ARRIVED, folks.

What Birds of Prey’s central story lacks in significant substance it spectacularly makes up for with an overabundance of effervescent style and sass, allowing its lively leading ladies the chance to kick and quip their way through the unsettling underworld of Gotham with grit and grace.

Birds of Prey very much feels like it was cut from the same cloth as Kick-Ass and Deadpool, fine-tuning its focus on the “streets” of a superhero world while further differentiating itself…
